Freelance embedded software engineer (C/C++)

What challenges will you work on?

Our clients develop innovative machines, electronic products and connected systems. They face increasingly complex software, new technologies and higher demands on reliability, performance and cybersecurity.

As a freelance embedded software engineer you help them take on those challenges. Depending on your expertise and interests, you work on projects across several domains:

• Embedded C/C++. Development of performant and reliable firmware and system software.
• Embedded Linux. Development and optimisation of Linux platforms with Yocto, Buildroot, BSPs and device drivers.
• Microcontrollers and RTOS. Firmware with Zephyr, FreeRTOS and bare-metal C, among others.
• Connectivity and industrial communication. Integration of protocols such as CAN, CANopen, J1939, Ethernet, MQTT, SPI and I²C.
• Cameras and image processing. Multimedia pipelines with GStreamer, OpenCV and hardware-accelerated image processing.
• Edge AI. Integration of algorithms and AI models on embedded hardware.
• Cybersecurity and product lifecycle. Secure boot, OTA updates and software security, including in the context of the Cyber Resilience Act.
• Hardware and system integration. Interfacing with electronic components, debugging and optimisation of complex embedded systems.

You do not need to master all of these technologies. We are looking for engineers with a strong technical base and deep expertise in their own specialisation.

Who are we looking for?

You are an independent software engineer who enjoys technical challenges and gets satisfaction from building reliable products.

• You have several years of professional experience in embedded software development.
• You have a good knowledge of C and/or C++.
• You have experience with embedded Linux, microcontrollers or real-time systems.
• You understand the interaction between hardware and software.
• You think along about software architecture and technical solutions.
• You work independently and function well in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• You care about high-quality, maintainable and reliable software.
• You communicate easily and enjoy working with other engineers.

Experience in machine building, industrial automation, automotive, medical technology or another high-tech sector is a plus.
